The 2020 HCN in person gathering was originally going to be hosted by the Esalen Institute. Terry Gilbey will now be offering the opening keynote of the virtual gathering followed by Q&A and discussion.
The following session description has been inspired by a recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle; https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Esalen-Institute-Big-Sur-icon-faces-existential-15210753.php
Esalen Institute places a premium on physical presence and intimate human contact — practices that have been all but abandoned during the current period of social distancing and self-isolation. Those new concepts could undercut Esalen’s ideology long after the pandemic subsides.
Esalen’s leaders are also grappling with what the pandemic might portend for society at large.
“I think this will bring out a new way that we look for consent, a new way we look for invitation, a new way that we look at personal space,” Terry Gilbey said. “There is still going to be a need for deep personal connection, and how we solve for that and help people through that is very much a part of the Esalen future that we’re imagining right now.”
