Brett served for more than seven years on the senior Development staff of Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, NY. He relocated to Saint Petersburg in 2016 to form Compassionate Tampa Bay, providing nonprofit leadership development services as well as offering Compassion and Self-Compassion training to professionals and institutions.

Spanning more than 25 years, Brett served in senior development roles with leading nonprofit organizations in New York and Florida, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the New York Philharmonic. He is also a Senior Instructor of Compassion Cultivation Training of The Compassion Institute, formerly a program of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research & Education at Stanford University. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Yoga Service Council and the Tampa Bay International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
